Director, Human Resources, Archdiocese of Toronto

The Archdiocese of Toronto is one of the most ethnically diverse Catholic Dioceses in the world.  It provides spiritual and community support to 1.9 million Catholics in 225 parishes, widely and geographically dispersed within Metropolitan Toronto; Peel, York and Durham Regions; and, north to the Georgian Bay area.  About 2000 people full-time religious and lay personnel are engaged at the parish level; 100 in spiritual and administrative functions at the Toronto Chancery Office; with some 200-300 people in part-time lay ministry / community work.

The Position

Based in Toronto, the Director, Human Resources is a member of Senior Management responsible for leading planning, ongoing development and implementation of human resources / employee relations policies, procedures and programs that are in line with evolving needs of the Archdiocese. He /she will direct / oversee the activities of an HR team that is knowledgeable   and experienced (payroll, salary / benefits administration; employee development, accessibility, employment legislation / compliance, etc) and providing support, advice and, direction to both the spiritual and the administrative leadership on all human resource matters.

Candidates

This opportunity calls for an accomplished human resource practitioner with CHRP credentials and proven contemporary Human Resources leadership / experience ideally acquired within service organizations in business, health, education, government or non-for-profit sectors. 

Requirements include:

  • Amongst others, hands-on knowledge / competence in a variety of HR functions including but not limited to diversity, AODA and legislation; counseling, mediation; compensation; and employee relations; and contemporary Human Resources Information Systems.
  • Proven ability to support / work with all levels of Chancery and parish clergy, lay senior management and personnel; a skill in any second language would be ideal, reflecting the ethnic diversity throughout the Archdiocese.
  • A faith based understanding of the Catholic Church, its tenets and culture; respect for its leadership and parish clergy.
